What has shaped me
into the person that I am today? Was it my parents, of course. But I
strongly think that there was other things in my life too. I don't
honestly really know exactly what it was. At age nine, my Dad had a
heart attack, and that kind of sent me on the way to developing into
the young adult that I am today. I had to do many things for my
self, and for my family at this time.
I first came as a guest of a friend of mine for the first week of
summer. Figuring I would just come to the club for this short time,
I didn't really expect to get much out f it. But then I discovered
all of the things that the club offered to their members. from
homework help, to programs that allowed me to go white water
rafting, and I found my self in the white mountains for a week
climbing 5 of new Hampshire peeks.
I found my self starting to trust the adults here, and take their
advice. They would listen to me, no matter what I had to say. The
staff here at the club never really ever had to listen to me, but
they wanted to. That was the most important thing to me, they WANTED
to listen to me. As my first summer passed at the club, I found
myself telling everyone once the school year came around that I had
the best summer ever.
I did things with the club I would never otherwise experience. as
the summer approached again, I discovered this amazing chance to be
a C.I.T in the 6-12 year old program. I worked 3 weeks out of the
summer, but that was the best start for me. then as the school year
approached I was offered a job as an after school counselor. I was
so excited. As I went downstairs to the teen center, I saw these
staff members change peoples lives, just as they did in mine as
well. The teens had these staff to talk to, and I wanted to do the
same for a child.
As the summer of 2007 approached, I was selected for a trip of a
lifetime. I was one of ten teens selected to go to the Bahamas. I
didn't really believe it until I was on the plane. When I was in the
Bahamas I went snorkeling, and jumped off a 25 foot cliff into the
crystal clear ocean water. I was able to make a solar oven, and bake
cookies. Where in New Hampshire would I be able to do that? I left
the country for the first time because of the club. It is has
changed my life forever. I was able to see parts of life that I
never expected to see.
The club has really made me into who I am today. The club has kept
me away from the people that I should be away from, and close to the
people that I should be near. It's a nice feeling knowing that
everyday after school first of all I have a job, but most
importantly I have a place to go to if I need help, or just a little
time away from the pressures of teenage life. |
